More than 60,000 people proudly claim Kingwood, also known as the livable forest because of its 14,000 acres of picturesque, natural wooded land, home. The master-planned community is located 20 miles north of downtown Houston and only three miles north of Humble. The area is thickly forested with recreational opportunities abound including seven golf courses, tennis courts, swimming pools, Lake Houston, and horse, bike and jogging trails.
Kingwood is served by the Humble Independent School District and has been rated as one of the best academic districts in the Houston region. The district houses ten elementary schools, three middle schools, one ninth grade campus and one high school. All of Kingwood's schools have been recognized as exemplary by the Texas Education Agency with 94 percent of high school graduates going on to college. The North Harris Montgomery Community College District provides the greater Humble area with sources of higher education through the Kingwood College Campus. In addition to the warm, friendly atmosphere, the community also boasts a scenic beauty with more than 20 species of shade trees, dotted with wildflowers, enjoyed by families of deer, and overflowing with native birds, ducks and fish. The close-knit community offers a unique quality of life with many office centers close to the area, award winning schools, world-class golf courses, thriving village shopping centers and a preserved natural beauty that influences an environment that encourages lifelong friendships. Residents of Kingwood take great pride in the community and as a result, more than 100 clubs and organizations have been formed by the Friendswood Development Company, a land development company who has pioneered the "master-planned community" of Kingwood since 1971, creating a lifestyle that is distinct. Kingwood features 30 residential and commercial villages each with architecturally unique homes. Through Friendswood Development, Kingwood has acquired more than 75 miles of greenbelts used for bicycling, walking, or jogging, neighborhood playgrounds with pools and grand-scale community parks that provide ball fields, soccer fields, and boating access to Lake Houston. A horse stable was also established to provide horse lovers with a riding area. The area also features more than 500 acres of parks for soccer, baseball, softball, picnic areas, boating, fishing and two public tennis courts. Kingwood has several private parks including River Grove, Deer Ridge, North Park, and the Creekwood Nature Area. Each park is unique offering a variety of accommodations. River Grove Park features a boat launch and fishing pier, with picnic areas and soccer fields. North Park is mainly comprised of ball fields. More ball fields along with tennis courts, a basketball court and volleyball court are available at Deer Ridge. Creekwood hosts an area of preserved natural plant and wildlife indigenous to Kingwood. Located on Highway 59, Mountasia Amusement Park provides fun for the entire family with miniature golf, bumper boats, go-carts, and party facilities. An athletic club is also located in the area and features a full-service gym with activities, training, and education for youths and adults. |
